6 Signs of a Broken Heart

 Heartbreak is a moment of extreme sadness, broken expectations and pains. It is an overwhelming grief that occurs through disappointments in love or loss of a loved one. However you might not be aware you are going through a heartbreak especially if you are an emotionally tough person.


Here are 6 signs of a broken heart.

1) Physical pain.
 Scientists likened the pain of heart break to physical pain because the brain act alike during both occurrence. The anterior cingulate cortex of the brain is stimulated which causes the release of cortisol and norepinephrine. 

This surge of cortisol causes our body to interpret this pain as a physical one. This pain could be in form of headaches, joint pains, chest pains , stomach upset, heaviness of eyes e.t.c.

2) Higher stress levels.
 The limbic system is affected and it responds to it by releasing certain stress hormones like cortisol. This could be triggered by the loss of a loved one or an unexpected end of a love relationship. The person could feel tired most of the time. This leads to constant exhaustion.

3) Depression and withdrawal symptoms.
The feeling of losing a relationship you’ve invested so much in could make you feel so miserable. This could lead to drastic appetite changes, chronic fatigue and withdrawal from people. You may begin to stay away from people you would normally want to be around.

4) Loss of Self Control.
The person may begin to take on some harmful habits that had done away with in the past like drinking, smoking , womanizing, masturbating and so on as a means to forget it detach themselves from the way they feel. The relapse could be major or minor.

5) Ponders on the past.
 You start thinking about the causes of the break up , what went wrong, the disappointments, why it ended, e.t.c. Constant stream of excessive intrusive thoughts is a clear sign of a broken heart.

6) Hate and spitefulness. 
When a person starts to act funny towards the other gender and use phrases that denotes revenge is a sign of heart break. In death situations, the person blames God or accuse others or themselves for the loss of the person. This could lead to an expression of hate on themselves or the person they think is responsible for the death of their loved one.


No matter the hurt you feel note that time heal all wounds. Brace yourself up and don’t let it limit you. A failed romantic relationship is not the end of the world. If you loose a loved one you don't have to kill yourself for it. Let time do the magic.
